Over and above the requirements for the Behavior Technician, these staff members are enrolled in accredited graduate programs to receive advanced training in behavior analysis. As a component of this, staff at this level receive supervised practical experience (from one or more BCBAs) that may include design and implementation of treatment protocols, assisting with assessment, goal selection and treatment planning, as well as participation in various case management duties.

C) Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA):

“The formal training of professionals certified by the BACB is similar to that of other medical and behavioral health professionals…In summary, Behavior Analysts undergo a rigorous course of training and education, including an ‘internship’ period in which they work under the direct supervision of an experienced Behavior Analyst.” (www.bacb.com) BCBAs at C.A.P.E.S. possess a master’s degree or higher, conferred in behavior analysis, education, and/or psychology. Requirements include completion of a minimum of 270 total graduate coursework hours in the topics of ethical and professional conduct, concepts and principles of behavior analysis, research methods in behavior analysis, applied behavior analysis, and discretionary content areas. In addition, staff complete 750-1500 hours of supervised practical experience from one or more certified BCBAs. Once the degree, coursework, and supervised experience minimums have been accomplished, staff are eligible to complete a 4-hour proctored examination.
